Hi @predictable, I'd be interested in knowing what you feel is important from the fish oil capsule label. I'm never sure what to buy, so I end up not buying anything. Thanks, Teresa

Hi, Teresa. Hope you'll consider getting some Omega-3-rich fish oil supplements. I look for 1g-2g capsules, preferably from wild salmon but not necessarily. I'd like to have at least 600mg of Omega-3 daily with components of EPA and DHA of about 200mg+/- each. Those are the 2 Omega-3 oils that come mainly from fish. The other Omega-3 is ALA that comes only from plants -- seeds, nuts, etc. The ALA is not of particular interest to me because our metabolism converts so little of it into EPA or DHA, burning it up instead as an energy fuel, so it takes a bushel of walnuts or two quarts of flax seeds to give me the heart and inflammation protection I'm looking for. Look also for information on antioxidants in the product to enhance its overall benefits.

@predictable Does this much oil cause any stomach upset? Do you take it with meals? Thanks for all the good info. Teresa

No problems digestively for me, Teresa. A 1000mg capsule is not that large. I usually take it after breakfast or dinner with my other meal-related meds. The EPA and DHA types of Omega-3 are nearly unique so that they don't metabolize into ineffective materials and meld well with healthy, non-fried foods.

Wow, how time flys by! I hope all is well with you all and this journey through this life with it's trials finds you all in good steed!
It's good to reflect on how far we come and I want to thank all of you for your good council through these last 6+ years! I've learned a lot from all of you and how important it is to be our own advocate when it comes to our health.
I'm in a good place right now (enjoying being a snowbird in a much warmer part of the country AZ) and adding quality Drs. here so I don't leave any gaps in my overall heathcare. I went through a bit of a scare last October, when after finally being able to get an ECHO after it being cancelled several times due to Covid I had one and it showed a clot in my heart. I was placed on Warfarin immediately in OR and then we moved into our AZ home that following month. I went to my new Cardiologist here and they did a ECHO and found none so scheduled a Heart MRI to be sure and once again none was found. Gone in 4 1/2 months on Warfarin? I suppose that is possible, but with the many prayers of dear friends I had a strong sense that God ripped that clot out of me and cast it as far as the East is to the West! Well, I'm set up down here to get another ECHO in early April so God willing I will continue showing no signs of any clot!!
According to my AZ DR. I have a EF of 47 now, far better than the 33 or so they said early on.
I am vigorousely excersizing 3x a week for 2 hrs each time and doing my share of walking on off days as well as the remodeling continues here at the AZ home.
My most recent Lipid blood work was excellent in my mind. Cholestrol 121, HDL 41, LDL 61, Trig. 97, VLDL 19.
I hope this New Year brings you all Good Health and real joy to your souls. May you be a blessing to others!

Hey congrats you are doing great. Nothing like putting the time in and seeing these kind of results!

Oh and btw all double blind legit scientific studies have shown all fish oil supplements NOT EFFECTIVE except for 1-FDA approved rx which is icosapent ethyl (aka Vascepa) which absolutely crushes triglycerides.
All other supplements NOT tested for purity, dosage, or anything else but hey, if you like throwing coins into the fountain, have at it.

Agree with cleerlyseeker - nothing I've seen indicates fish oil does much of anything.

Icosapent ethyl (Vascepa and I think the new Euro approved is called Vazkepa) does show some promise, but no significant independent proof, yet), in my case, combined with atorvastatin, reduced my triglycerides to around 40, and my LDL to under 40. I have had no obvious side effects from either.

I don't know what you consider no siginificant proof besides the study that allowed it to claim its results and fda approval?
Its the real deal.
