Pain in upper thighs and hips

Posted by Cherril Engholm @cherril, Jun 28, 2016

I have pain in my upper thighs, groin and hips, upon rising from a chair. Sometimes I will have pain in the groin area when I am walking. Does anyone have any appropriate exercises for this condition and or why does it occur? Are my hips going out? I also experience pain in my low back upon walking a short distance or standing even a short time. I am a moderately active female and want to exercise but it is painful.

Sorry you have been going through this. I can off a little advice based on my own experience. I see Physical Therapy 3 times a week. I have similar pain symptoms mine happens to be from pelvise. There are a series of three exercises that you can do one stretch one to put it back in place and the third to lock it in place. However must get it properly diagnosed so you do the proper steps. I would ask your md for a physical therapy consult. They can help you tremendously. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your help. Yes, I did see a PT. and she was
excellent. I just can't recall all the exercises. They helped soon much
when doing them and I know I should have kept them up. Good luck to you
too, now. It isn't fun to have that pain, and not be able to move
comfortably,is it. Thank you again for your response.
I will send you them. I use to see chiro for it but would just go right back out. When you do the 3 steps in order it locks them back in place. Haven't had to go back to chiro in 7 months. 🙂

Hi @cherril! Welcome to Connect. We are so happy to have you!

I'm glad to see Dawn has already jumped in to help out (she is wonderful :)). I'm also tagging @bronxgal44, @katrinaramquistwesson, @tomb1, @keri, @callalily74 and @success101 who have posted about similar types of pain and may be able to provide some insight.

Have you talked to your doctor about the pain? Did they give you any kind of explanation?

Yes, thank you for answering. I was in therapy for the pain, it helped for a short time. The pain is right back, but I am still doing excises at home. bronxgal44

Yes, I was sent to a very good PT. I worked with her for as long as my insurance would allow. The exercises she gave me help a great deal. I was interested to know if there were other people who had similar pain to mine. I was hoping to not hear that it meant a hip replacement was close at hand. If you have any exercises, I would appreciate getting them again. thanks so much! Cherril

Success mine supposedly, comes from my foot, following achilles tendonitis.Wore boot
Too long. Overcompensated, and, ended up with extreme bursitis in hip now, for over year.
Pt. Very good. But, i felt my chiorpractor
Helped straighten my posture out,considerably.
It is much better. My foot,is another case.
Will end up with surgery to remove a very
Stubborn bonespur,that has curtailed my
Walking.
Im 72 yrs old and a fighter.
Do hope to be walking free of pain by Fall.
Will continue to do the PT exercises
As, they loosen things up.
Even went out and bought runners shoes
HOKAS. VERY COMFORTABLE.
BUT THE FOOT MOTION IS THE KILLER.

Water exercise is sometimes as good or better than physical therapy. Walking forward and backward helps.

Marilyn
