Mayo Clinic offers two non-surgical endoscopic procedure options to support weight loss. When these procedures are combined with lifestyle changes, it can help you lose weight and prevent or improve Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, heart disease, asthma, joint problems and high cholesterol.

The procedures offered include:

  • Gastric balloon
Typically, the intragastric balloon procedure involves a saline filled balloon being placed in the stomach and remaining there for 6 months.

  • Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty
The endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, sometimes called a gastric sleeve, uses sutures placed with the help of a camera to make the stomach much smaller.

These procedures are typically done as an outpatient, with no overnight hospital stay. However, since they are a procedure, there are things to consider, including a minimum weight requirement.

Our program is the first in the nation to combine new state of the art endoscopic weight loss interventions, such as intragastric balloons and endsocopic sleeve gastroplasty and lifestyle modification.
