National Cancer Survivors Day

Early last fall the cancer education team began planning for this year’s annual National Cancer Survivors Day event. Rochester’s local baseball team, the Honkers, reserved Sunday, June 7th at the ballpark to
celebrate cancer survivors, host a lunch and line the entryway to the stadium with educational
tables from a variety of local organizations whose missions are to help those living with cancer.

Unfortunately, the growing concern of COVID-19 transmission and the urging of social
distancing have put us in a position of canceling this year’s gathering. We believe this is the
safest thing to do, knowing what we know today. Cancer survivors often have compromised
immune systems and the risk of having hundreds of individuals sitting closely in the stadium
seats is too much of a risk.

Our intention is to host the event in partnership with the Honkers in June 2021 – just a year later
than we had originally planned. We will miss hosting our 31st annual event in recognition of cancer survivors. It is a day filled with joy, connections, celebration and hope. In lieu of being together in-person, please share what this annual event has meant to you and/or a message of inspiration for others.

We will look forward to celebrating together again next year.
