2018 Mayo Clinic Florida Patient Symposium

ORLANDO, Fla. ― Individuals interested in learning more about the latest in cancer research, treatment and care will want to attend a free public cancer education symposium, “Capture the Moment” hosted by Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. The symposium will be held on March 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grand Lakes, in Orlando.

Mayo Clinic cancer experts will address topics that will empower patients and caregivers to help them better understand their cancer treatment. The theme for this year’s program is “Innovations and Connections.”

Program sessions will include:

  • Cancer 101: What You Need to Know
  • Breast Cancer Research/Vaccines
  • Treatment Breakthroughs for Blood Cancers
  • Caregiver Fatigue
  • Cellular Immune Therapies
  • Exercise and Physical Therapy

The symposium will feature large general sessions in the morning, followed by smaller breakout sessions and support group discussions in the afternoon.

“Capture the Moment provides an open forum for discussion with Mayo cancer experts about a broad range of cancer-related topics of interest to patients and their families,” said Winston Tan, M.D., course director and oncologist at Mayo Clinic. “It’s a unique opportunity for clinicians and patients to interact outside the exam room in an environment where patients and survivors can also share their experiences about their battle with cancer.”

The free event is open to the general public, however, registration is required. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Register by Feb. 24 at mayoclinic.org/floridacancersymposium or by emailing mcaevents@mayo.edu.

You can also watch video presentations on YouTube from the 2017 Capture the Moment symposium.

I am very interested in attending this event as many of the topics pertain to me and my situation! Having to cope with being diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma last June has totally turned my life (as well as my family's too) upside down. I've been trying to learn as much as I can and to be as positive as possible through out my journey and I think this would be a great experience for me. Please let me know what I need to do to be able to attend!! Thank you for your time and for the email!! Sincerely Kellie McMahon
