A Mother’s Frightening Fight Against Autoimmune Encephalitis

By Alyse Brunella

Gloria Pena thought her earache was a bad cold, but within a few weeks, it escalated into confusion and sensory loss. Determined to find answers, Gloria visited Mayo Clinic. Her condition spiraled downward to the point where Gloria was in a coma, and doctors knew they needed to pinpoint her condition quickly as Gloria’s health was deteriorating. After several tests at Mayo Medical Laboratories, doctors diagnosed Gloria with autoimmune encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain. Two years later, Gloria is back to caring for her family and living life to the fullest.

Great story. I will definitly keep this, to show others and also my doctors who have misdiagnosed me as l go through finding out what the next step. This will help.others who can’t go to the mayo clinic but still have the faith that if it can happen to you it can happen to them also.
