Women Are Now Drinking as Much as Men, Study Shows

By Ali Skahan

For most of history, studies have shown that men are more likely to consume alcohol and consume it to a point that it harms their health. However, women are now nearly equal to men in alcohol consumption. While no single cause was identified for this shift, Dr. Victor Karpyak, an alcohol researcher at Mayo Clinic, said social evolution has likely played a role in this trend. Now that alcohol is more prominent in social situations and even our everyday lives, it can be challenging to avoid. Remember that if you do choose to drink, do it in moderation.
