Tampon test for endometrial cancer

By Ali Skahan

Okay ladies, we know tampons are a common grocery list item but new findings are showing they may be key in the role of detecting endometrial cancer, a form of cancer that starts in the uterus. Endometrial cancer is curable when caught early but there is currently no reliable test to detect it. Dr. Jamie Bakkum-Gamez and her Mayo Clinic team are hoping to find a solution by developing a screening test that women can administer at home ─ using a tampon.  While this test is still in development, being able to potentially screen cancer through a product most women have on hand could be life-changing (and life-saving)!
