Liver Transplant Allows Young Father to Be There for His Family

By Ali Skahan

When you’re feeling fine and don’t have any pre-existing conditions, you probably think routine checkups are just that; routine. That’s how Bryan Duncan, a 29-year-old father of two, felt when he went in for checkup, but lab results showed otherwise. Bryan discovered he had a rare liver disorder known as primary sclerosing cholangitis, or PSC, for which the only cure is a liver transplant. After looking to Mayo Clinic for help, they found that Bryan’s father-in-law was a match for his transplant. After his successful surgery at Mayo Clinic, Bryan is happy, healthy and looking forward to the future with his kids: “Now I’ll get to see them grow up, walk my daughter down the aisle, the kind of things every dad looks forward to,” says Bryan.
