Brothers Bond Over Kidney Disease, Transplant

By Alyse Brunella

Fifteen years ago, Scott was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the kidneys and affects the kidney’s ability to filter waste, excess water and electrolytes from the blood. After coming close to kidney failure and joining the transplant list, Scott’s youngest brother, David, came forward for testing and proved to be a compatible match for Scott. After a positive and successful experience and recovery, the brothers celebrate every day in good health. “My brother’s unselfish act of kindness and love gives me and my family gifted years to enjoy. It takes someone very special to be willing to go through that process,” Scott says. “It’s a tremendous gift I’ve been given, and I have to treat it as such.”
