Coordination and Teamwork Make Simultaneous Surgeries Seamless for Heart Transplant Recipients

Once complete strangers, Michael Tyler and William Tiger now share a moment of making history together. The 55-year-olds underwent the first simultaneous heart transplant surgery at Mayo Clinic’s Arizona campus, marking a significant milestone for the Transplant Center team. It was a long road for both Michael and William, as they both required ventricular assist devices to keep their hearts pumping and faced other health issues that kept them from transplant eligibility.
