At the young age of 16, Connor Bleakly asked his father for something you wouldn’t expect most teenagers to ask for: a foot amputation. After struggling with chronic pain in his left foot his entire life, Connor was ready to let it go. But his dad, David, convinced him to give it one last shot and the specialists at Mayo Clinic were able to get him into the pain rehabilitation program. Now, “We go hiking together. He can play outdoors barefoot. He walks with the dogs about eight miles a week. The pain program at Mayo Clinic gave him the confidence to do that, to get him moving,” says David.
