Mayo Clinic Researchers Find New Lyme Disease Bacteria

Just in time for tick season, Mayo Clinic researchers found a new bacteria that causes Lyme disease in the Midwest. Named after the Mayo Clinic founders, Borrelia mayonii causes slightly different symptoms than Borrelia burgdorferi the other Lyme disease causing bacteria. If you get tested for Lyme disease current tests will pick up both bacteria and the same antibiotics can treat both types. Learn more about how to prevent Lyme disease here.
