KIDNEY BIOPSEY WITH LOW PLATELETS?

Just today my son-in-law, the father of my only grandchild and a wonderful father and husband was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis. I've looked this up on the Mayo site and read about it. It does mention high protein in urine, possible swelling, as well as high blood pressure. What was your friend's diagnosis? Was it glomerulonephritis? The doctor that diagnosed him this morning sent him on to at 2:30 appt. with a kidney specialist. No word yet and I'm really worried. Please remember us in your prayers and I will do the same for your friend. Please let me know what your friend's diagnosis was. Also, Kevin said he feels "bloated" in his abdomen a lot, too. I am so sorry for the for all the pain and fear this unfortunate sickness has brought to you and your family. I have prayed for you and hope for God's protection and answer to your prayer.

Unfortunately, Jeanne's accurate diagnosis was Multiple Myeloma, bone cancer, for which there is no cure. If caught early a person can live 5-7years. Apparently hers was in the latter stages and she lived one month after the diagnosis. I pray a better outcome for you.

Her symptoms were always being tired, susceptability to frequent colds, infections and of course the pneumonia. These were the result of a weak immune system which is dependent on the platelets and blood cells formed in the marrow of the bone structure. There was also an increase of calcium in her blood and urine as a result of bone deteriation. She found it difficult to hold down food and liquids and with all the blood she had removed for testing she went into acute dehydration which puts a person into a confused and delirious state. Intervenious hydration is important if this situation exists

Because only about 1.5% of cancer patients have Multiple Myeloma it is not easily recognised by the medical community. A kidney biopsy and oncology screening is probably the best way to tell.

The odds are in his favor that it is not multiple myeloma but it's probably best to mention it so the attending medical professionais can rule it out.

I'm heartbroken for your loss. I'm 50 now and lost my father 10 years ago to heart failure. He has been the only close blood-relative that my family has lost. It's my belief that when a loved one goes on to be with God that we never get over the loss, rather we learn to "live with the loss". Nevertheless, you will be in my prayers also.

Kevin, my son-in-law, is to be scheduled within the first couple of weeks in February for a biopsy. Since my letter that you kindly responded to, Kevin has since been seen by a kidney specialist. He seems to think it may be "IgA nephritis, which is a form of glomerulonephritis (inflammation of the glomeruli of the kidneys). All of these terms are new to us as well as confusing.

Please keep Kevin, my daughter and my precious grandson in your prayers as we are a family of Believers and trust in God that where "two or more are gathered in His name" He will hear our prayers. This little unit, or family, has been put together by the Grace of God and we are forever grateful to Him.
