Does anyone have any issues with trying to ascertain if they have essential tremor or parkinson's? I really believe I have essential tremor and not parkinson's, however, neurologist wants me to try meds for parkinson's.

I have essential tremor and perhaps Charcot-Marie-Tooth syndrome. I was told by 2 different neurolgists to have an alcoholic beverage to help the shaking. I laughed when that was put right in my "doctor's orders." One of them told me that years and years ago giving the person alcohol is how they knew if the person had parkinsons or essentil tremor. If alcohol calms the shaking, it's esseential tremor. If it doesn't touch it, it Parkinsons. I know if I have a glass of wine or coffee sombrero the shaking calms. I'd be interested in knowing your findings. Good luck!

My father had essential tremors. The doctors had not decided which I had until now after 3 years. It depends if you shake at rest or action. I also am getting it in my right leg now.
